About the product

It is often said that Kenya produces some of the most flavour-intense coffees in the world. The country’s red volcanic soil is usually cited as the main reason. In reality, the distinctive character of Kenyan coffee is shaped by a combination of factors – variety, microclimate, altitude, and a balanced mix of rainfall and sunshine.

The Mutitu washing station was established back in 1957, making it one of the oldest coffee processing stations in Kenya. Mutitu serves approximately 750 smallholder farmers and processes their coffee using the washed method, traditional to Kenya.

Our Kenyan coffee comes from smallholder farmers growing the SL28 and SL34 varieties. It was processed using a double-washed method with fermentation, followed by drying on raised African beds.

When it comes to African coffees, it’s only right to mention the coffee grading. In this case, we’re talking about selected AB+FAQ beans. AB refers to a bean size of 6–7 mm, while FAQ (Fair Average Quality) indicates that the coffee exceeds the average quality standards of its grade.
